Flowers at Christmas

Well, I've started decorating...the tree is outside 'relaxing' in a bucket of water before it comes in, my Christmas wreath is made and on the front door... and the shops are full of lovely flowers...

Look at these little beauties...tiny individual poinsettias...

I've plonked them in glass jam jars with a piece of music paper, and sat them in a vintage wire basket thingy...

Red tulips are also making an appearance...

in various parts of the house...

Whilst, over on the windowsill, some pinkish red cyclamens are keeping company in old army ration boxes...

When the sun goes down (at blinking 4 o'clock)...

little fairy lights from Ikea illuminate them.

In the kitchen on the sill a cactus is flowering happily, again in festive pinkish red...

And on the front door...my newly made holly wreath...

A lovely lady in our village does wreath making lessons each Christmas...she provides all the holly from her own garden, with proceeds of the day going to charity...I've kept mine simple this year with some red holly berries and dark blue sloes.

See you next time with a fully decorated tree...hopefully!

  2. You must have a green thumb even in that part of the world where I can imagine it must be difficult. I purchase a Poinsettia every Christmas and I am thrilled if it last the season (a testament to how bad I am) I love the wreath, I will follow you on my way out and come back and have a further look around. I hope you can find the time to pop over to my place and do the same. A very Merry Christmas to you all. Cheers SpecialK XoXo

  5. I ummed and aahed over the little poinsettias yesterday in Sainsbury - I was swayed by some red roses instead, but after seeing your lovely photos I think one or two might make it onto my shopping list next weekend!

  6. Beautiful wreath! I love all the pops of red around your house and I need to think more of cyclamen as a Christmas flower. They look lovely in that army tin during the day and with the lights at night.

  12. Hi Robyn, it wouldn't be Christmas without poinsettia would it and those minature ones are so cute.
Your place looks very festive already, I bet it's stunning with the Christmas tree up as well.
    Keep warm,

  13. Loving all the red! I really tried to eliminate most of the red this year and I'm regretting it. Your house looks to festive! Beautiful Christmas cactus. I've not seen that color.

Hope you have a very Merry Christmas!
